SAI PRADHAN is a writer and artist.

Sai was born in Mumbai, India, and raised there and in various parts of the United States. She lives and works in Hong Kong. She has a BA in International Affairs from George Washington University, and an LLM in International Law from the University of Edinburgh. She also studied at the School of Oriental & African Studies at the University of London, took classes with the Rhode Island School of Design and the Insight school of Interior Design, and studied policy and leadership with Harvard’s executive education school.

In the spirit of poet Mary Oliver’s words, “The most regretful people on earth are those who felt the call to creative work, who felt their own creative power restive and uprising, and gave to it neither power nor time,” Sai decided to give her art both power and time and re-centred it vigorously as a primary pursuit after years of an entrepreneurial and corporate career in the tech, media, and communications spheres in New York, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong.

To Sai, art is born of intentional curiosity to examine and process the fragilities of existence through a human prism, to experiment with expression, and to add to the web of meaning we all attempt to live in. Considerations of time, myths, and memory surface thematically in her work, as do considerations of labour and productivity as it pertains to social roles. Other recurring elements in her practice include flourishes and drawings inspired by the natural elements that surround her, like pandan trees and beach naupaka shrubs in recent work; her extensive personal archive of travels (visit her stash of travel finds housed on Instagram, The Particular Rover); her dogs (her old dachshund shows up representatively in a substantive way); the juxtaposition of interior design with exterior elements (such as a specific lamp alongside a tree of significance to her); and, her current and past homes around the world.

Her art has participated in several gallery exhibits and auctions, and is featured in art and literary journals. Her writing is published in many literary journals, reviews, the press, and travel magazines. Her first full-length book is represented by the literary agent Natalie Kimber. She lives with her husband and their three rescue dogs Sophy, Wystan, and Zola.
